Casa di Vina: Vinícius de Moraes’ and Gessy Gesse’s Bahian address.

Life is the art of meeting…

In Itapuã you’ll find the house where one of the great icons of Brazilian culture, Vinicius de Moraes, lived in Bahia. Delighted by the land diversity and inebriated with love for the actress Gessy Gesse, Vinicius moved to Itapuã in the early 70’s, living there a very inspired phase of his life. Vina’s, as Vinicius’ friends nicknamed him, was frequented by countless artists and was a refuge for their partnerships, the cradle of famous songs and part of the vast and important work left by the poet.

Bahian cuisine, with emphasis on dishes with seafood and an elegant atmosphere in a famous poet’s old house. Some recipes were taught by Gesse herself, like Frango a Gesse e Vina (Gesse and Vina’s Chicken) and the Tarde em Itapuã drink. The dish is an oven chicken covered with cooked banana, rice with broccoli and egg farofa. The drink is a delicious mix of green coconut ice cream with vodka. Don’t forget to also try the Aragosta Grigliata: grilled lobster, octopus and breaded risotto.

Preserved in its original architecture, the house today houses the Casa di Vina Memorial, open to the public, free, where objects, photos and documents of the couple’s history and of the poet’s little known passage by Bahia are exposed. During the visit, you can also enjoy old sculptures and tiles by the artist Udo Knoff and the panel painted by Bel Borba in honor of Vinicius and the painter Calasans Neto friendship. The collection was kindly provided by Gessy Gesse. Learn everything in this link. (http://casadivinabahia.com.br/memorial/)
